Magical Creatures and Mythical Beasts

Madrid

The paintings of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum are home to all kinds of animals, real and fantastical. Some are symbols, some are there to create atmosphere or fun. Meet a mischievous cat, magnificent horses, a dog that rarely left its owner's lap, a pair of exotic animals from the east, mythological creatures drawing the chariot of a god, butterflies fluttering through roses (and their deadly enemies, the dragonflies), a dragon with a pearl and a swan made of gold. And that's only the beginning ... Discover these creatures and many more, learn the stories of their painters and explore the masterpieces of the Museum, from a stunning painting of one of the beauties of the Renaissance to a renowned self-portrait by Rembrandt. And all along the way there are challenges and fun for the whole family.

Here are some great things to know about Magical Creatures and Mythical Beasts at the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum

  • If you want a break after you've started the route, you can stop whenever you want and start again later. You can even come back another day and pick up where you left off!
  • Like all TripMonsters routes, you can play Magical Creatures and Mythical Beasts offline if you don't want to use mobile data. Once it has downloaded (you have to be online for that!) you can switch off mobile data and enjoy the route.
  • Paintings are sometimes removed or areas closed in museums. No problem. If you can't view something on the route, you can just skip it and move on. There's plenty to see!
  • Oh, and just so you know, the price of the route doesn't include entry to the museum. If there's a charge for that, it's separate.
